Christmas Party Delayed

Due to the weather the Client Employee Christmas Party scheduled for 19 December 2008 has been rescheduled for 2 January 2009.

Little Dog Media Joins Rockwest Family

Rockwest is proud to announce that Little Dog Media (http://tagbagdog.com), a company out of Santa Barbara, California has joined with Rockwest in providing opportunities for client employees of Rockwest.

Little Dog Media offers fashionable Tag Bags for the upwardly mobile dog in your life.  Each Tag Bag has a secure velcro closure that allows you to hide and silence unsightly tags and they are great for storing an extra waste bag – just in case. Little Dog Media is owned and operated by Mo Gettings in California and her partner Sue Thorman in New York.

Our client employees cut out the pattern, sew the product together and add the elastic and velcro.  The product is shipped to Santa Barbara for final preparation before being sold to the public and on the internet.

New Embroidery Machine

Rockwest is happy to announce the addition of a Tajima, 2-head embroidery machine to the Embroidery Department.  This machine is an older model but is a top of the line brand.  It runs smoothly and is a great addition to our other machine.  We are now more capable to keep up with higher volume orders.

Rockwest has also added a heat press for vinyl transfers to the Screen Printing Department.  This will give our customers more options when ordering custom apparel.

Job Placement Program
A New Community Placement Meets Personal Goal!

Kurt N. has just met a personal goal of working in the community and make more money.  He has been doing janitorial work for Rockwest for many years.  Now he gets to put those skills into practice and increase his monthly income.  He works a few days a month at Mountain Man Fruit and Nut Company.  Kurt's main responsibility is to help keep the building clean by cleaning bathrooms and the break room.  We are proud of you, Kurt!  And thank you, Mountain Man for the opportunity!

We have another person that is using her janitorial skills.  Robina B. is working a few days a month for Industrial Finishes.  She cleans restrooms, sweeps, mops, and empties trash.  This has been a company that has supported Rockwest by placing a few different people in their company.  we appreciate the opportunities that they have made at helping to meet people's personal goals.  Thank you Industrial Finishes! And good job Robina!

Aliens Sighted at Cascade Gateway Park!

Rockwest had their annual employee picnic August 15, 2008 at Beaver Grove area at Cascade Gateway Park.  Our theme this year was "Space Aliens & UFO's".  We were "invaded" by a host of teen volunteers.  You have never seen such terrific volunteers, they moved with the speed of light to meet the needs of our clients.  From serving food to running games, handing out prizes and making sure it was a fun day for everyone.

Rockwest recognizes and thanks, Dalton J., Dixie F., Christian O-F, Lindsey B., Candace P. and Mel I.  They all had a wonderful time and want to volunteer for the Christmas party!

Despite the hot temperature weather report, the Rockwest headed out to the park for the annual festivities.

Canopies were set up throughout the park to keep everyone cool and happy.  The traditional menu consisted of hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, fruit, chips, salad, cookies, and of course, soda pop which everyone enjoyed thoroughly.  We thank Craig W. for barbecuing over 100 pieces of meat! Thanks!

The games were a lot of fun.  Some got us wet and some helped us improve on our squirt gun skills.  As we played a game we got a ticket to redeem a treasure of our choice.  Just some of the prize choices consisted of baseball caps, purses, shirts, and stuffed animals. Oh what fun!

We also had many talented singers get up in front of the microphone and serenade us all.  This was a popular thing with many of us.

Other activities that were going on were finger-painting, face painting, press on tattoo applying, and the favorite, dance contest.  Music filled the park all day and we enjoyed the cool breeze as it rushed through.  We can now say that we can have fun in any weather, rain or shine (of 100 degrees).

Interior of Wheelchair Lift VanA Van With A Lift.

We just added to our vehicle fleet. This has been a long, awaited, process for those in the Activities Program who are in wheelchairs.  The people in wheelchairs were having to stay at the facility while the rest of the group went out into the community.

After a few fundraisers and a grant, Rockwest had the funds available to purchase a wheelchair accessible van.  The van is a used, 1999 Chevy, bubble top, previously owned by the state with a brand new wheelchair lift. Our Executive Director made this find through the Oregon Rehabilitation Association (ORA).  We bought it and began to use it right away.

Wheelchair VanThis purchase pleased one of our client employees, especially.  She has been wanting to be a part of the Activity Program's outings for about three years.  It is a great thing to see her part of the group and getting to enjoy her community, as well as others in the same situation!

We want to thank all of you who have supported our fundraisers and Meyer Memorial Trust for making this happen!!  We also want to thank Starla for researching and seeing it through!
